Food grade silicone
what OEM buyers should ask for

Food-contact compound vs industrial grade · market rules · documentation pack on request

Definition

What "food grade silicone" means in sourcing

"Food grade silicone" is a market term, not a single certificate. In practice it means a silicone compound formulated and processed for food contact, backed by documents that show it meets the rules of the market where the product is sold.

The same-looking part can be made from a food-contact compound or an industrial compound. The difference is in the formulation, curing and post-cure process, and the paperwork — so it has to be named on the RFQ, not assumed.

Market rules

Rules differ by destination market

Food-contact rules are set per market. US buyers commonly reference FDA food-contact regulations for silicone; EU buyers reference the EU framework for food-contact materials, and some member states (for example Germany) have their own expectations. Which tests a SKU needs depends on the market, the product, and your retailer.

We do not claim a blanket approval. Tell us destination markets and channel, and we match the files that exist for that compound and SKU.

What to request

Documents to request from a silicone supplier

  • Compound COA tied to the lot.
  • Food-contact declaration for the compound, where the SKU needs it.
  • Third-party test reports, where they exist for that compound — check the report date, the lab, the tested material, and the test standard.
  • RoHS / REACH files on request for non-food or mixed programs.

All of these sit in our documentation pack on request. Verify that each report covers the material and color you are buying, and that it is current.

Simple checks

Practical checks for buyers

Ask for the documents before the PO, not after. Keep a retained sample from the approved lot. If your retailer needs a fresh test, plan it into the sample stage. Product pages: baking mat, spatula, silicone mold hub, kitchen silicone catalog. Spec background: silicone spec guide.

Food Grade Silicone FAQ

Is all silicone food grade?

No. Food grade refers to a compound and process made for food contact, plus the documents for the market. Industrial silicone is not the same.

Do you have an FDA or LFGB certificate?

We do not publish certification badges or numbers. Food-contact files that exist for a compound are sent in the documentation pack on request, matched to the SKU and market.

How can I check food grade silicone myself?

Request the documents, check that they cover the exact compound and color, and keep a retained sample. Home tests are not a substitute for documents.

Can industrial and food-contact SKUs share one order?

Yes, but each SKU is quoted with its own grade. See custom molded silicone for industrial parts.
